piperade stir fry

A few weeks ago I wrote about how my husband’s new grill got to move into our new apartment before we did. I believe that it was Mary who sagely advised me to leave him to it. Well, Mary, it was good advice and I have been benefiting from the proceeds ever since.

And when this week’s French Fridays with Dorie recipe popped up, Piperade Stir Fry (aka, sautéed bell peppers), I thought that it sounded like the perfect side for grilled steak. I knew going in, however, that my husband doesn’t think that bell peppers are good for much of anything. But he willingly ate Dorie’s chicken with piperade a few years ago, so maybe this one stood a chance after all.

What can I say? I thought that the dish was okay and my husband is as confirmed as ever in his distaste for bell peppers. It sure was pretty though and I may try it again with a different assortment of sweet and spicy peppers.

    I am with your husband on the bell peppers; fortunately, the rest of my family sees it differently.

    I skipped this because I can’t eat peppers – but the rest of your meal looks just delicious! We’ll be having grilled steak and corn tonight, too!

    The peppers may have been only okay, but the bowl you served them in is gorgeous. I ended up cooking the onion, garlic, and chile – it suited us better and I liked the dish a lot.

    I like the idea of adding some spicy peppers to the mix. This was a little boring. I’m jealous of your grilled corn. I can’t wait until it’s corn season here!

    The steak looks delicious. I was prepared to not like this Pipérade but it worked on Sea Bass which is a fleshy white fish. I served this combo at a dinner party and everyone seemed to like it. Plus, it was easy and pretty. Since I’m an Iowa girl with a farm background, I’ve always felt a good piece of beef (like your steak) can stand on its own without fussy toppings or sauces. As an Iowa girl, I also think corn-on-the-cob was the perfect side.
