coupetade (french toast bread pudding)

My home network is FINALLY back online. All in all, it wasn’t down for much longer than a week. But considering how things are all tied together now, one week is a VERY long time to be without a land line, television, and internet. The withdrawal shakes started after only two days. By day seven I would have sold my soul for one episode of Jon Stewart.

But in my information starved state, at least I didn’t starve. As a matter of fact, I somehow had much more time than I normally do, and put it to good use whipping up this week’s French Fridays with Dorie recipe, Coupetade, a.k.a. French Toast Bread Pudding.

So it’s like this: first you make some french toast, and then you make it into bread pudding. Sounds like a tasty brunch idea actually. Instead of maple syrup, I topped mine with cream and strawberries, because the berries are so gorgeous right now and I can’t seem to go more than a day without gorging on them.

My husband loved it. I was not as big a fan. Not sure why as I usually love bread pudding. But now that I have my internet back, I just can’t be bothered to spend too much time wondering why. After all, Jon Stewart is waiting.

enjoy your Jon Stewart! Your coupetade looks fnatastic with the fresh fruit on it as a garnish! Going to do that next time for sure!

  2. We really liked this in our house. I totally love the big chunks of strawberries on yours.

It looks beautiful! We enjoyed this, but I think it’s more of a potluck brunch item for me.

The internet went out in most of my neighbourhood recently and ours was one of the few streets unaffected. It’s amazing how many complaints showed up online as people scrambled to other neighbourhoods to get their social media fix.

  4. Yours looks so lovely topped with whipped cream and fruit. Yup, my hubby liked this more than I did, too. Glad you’re back online!

  5. Rose, what a nice presentation of your Coupétade with some whipped cream and those wonderful fresh strawberries – I can almost never walk past them in stores and at the market these days either!
    Have a great weekend!

I agree, that looks so delicious with the whipped cream and strawberries. We have been enjoying
the fresh strawberries here too, and loving every bite. Have a great weekend.

What is wrong with a little french toast pudding topped with a huge amount of whipped cream and fresh strawberries? Absolutely nothing. Your coupétade looks pretty darn delicious. I think that’s a dessert I could handle. I loved my version warm, right out of the oven, loaded with maple syrup. I later tried the chilled leftovers topped with creme fraiche and wasn’t that crazy about it. I am so psyched about the possibility of seeing you in Paris. Keep in touch. I have my fingers crossed.

While I do enjoy being unplugged for a few days here and there, a week does seem interminable… I enjoy Jon Stewart, but I must confess I am more of a Steve Colbert kind of girl 🙂
Your coupetade does look pretty good with those berries on top!

I am on team strawberries and cream 🙂 Like everyone else, I agree it looks like an amazing way to enjoy this dish. And you had me laughing at loud at your comments about being “offline” for a week. I can not recall the last time we lost all those items for a week but it would traumatic. And I am sure I would also finish all the unfinished projects I have around the house……..

  10. I think the cream and strawberries sounds PERFECT. I have always loved dairy and berries atop waffles! So this is right in there for me. But it is funny that I too did not like this as much as everyone else around here seemed to. I wouldn’t refuse it…but I don’t know that I will reach for this one again.

Glad you’re back on line. I’d be going through withdrawal too. So addicted to technology nowadays. Topping this with strawberries sounds delicious!

  12. Love the way you served yours with the whipped cream and berries…looks scrumptious! Glad to hear you can now watch Jon Stewart…one of my favorites! Technology has become such a big part of our lives. I’m addicted!

A week without TV or internet would be really hard for me! I hope you’re enjoying catching up on everything 🙂 Your berries and whipped cream look excellent. I’d have a hard time eating much else if I had those around…
